Colonialism still shapes housing, urban conditions, says BIG official
The consequences of colonialism extend beyond political and economic spheres and continue to have a significant impact on the environment, urban development, and housing conditions, said Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of WUF13 in Baku, Abbasov said that the effects of colonial policies are reflected across multiple aspects of human life, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“The consequences of colonialism are not limited to political and economic spheres but also have a serious impact on the environment, urban development, and the housing conditions of populations,” he said.
He also referred to the situation on the French-administered island of Mayotte, noting that a recent natural disaster there had helped bring attention to long-standing issues that had previously remained out of focus.
According to Abbasov, similar problems can be observed not only in French territories but also in Dutch colonies.
