Confessional diversity occupies special place in Azerbaijan’s social life FM Bayramov addresses CJO meeting in New York

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has said confessional diversity occupies a special place in the social life of Azerbaijan.

He made the remarks at a meeting with representatives of the Coalition of Jewish Organisations (CJO) in New York, the US, the Foreign Ministry's press service told Caliber.Az.

According to the minister, Azerbaijan has traditional friendly relations with Jewish communities around the world.

The purpose of Bayramov’s trip to the US is to participate in the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, the ministry said.

During the meeting, the current state of cooperation with Jewish organisations operating in the US, prospects and new opportunities for interaction, as well as the regional situation were discussed.

The foreign minister stressed Azerbaijan's traditional friendly relations with Jewish communities all over the world and expressed his country's interest in further strengthening these ties and implementing new cooperation projects.

He also expressed satisfaction with the high level of development of Azerbaijan's relations with American Jewish organisations, saying that the Jewish community of Azerbaijan has been peacefully coexisting in Azerbaijan for many years and is closely integrated into Azerbaijani society.

The minister also noted historical traditions of tolerance and multiculturalism in Azerbaijan, recalling that numerous synagogues, schools, cultural centres operate in the country.

Bayramov informed the CJO representatives about the regional situation and local anti-terrorist measures taken by Azerbaijan, and emphasised the CJO’s role in bringing the regional truth to the American public.

In addition, the sides also discussed the prospects of the development of Azerbaijani-American relations and other issues of mutual interest.
