CSTO upbeat about peace in South Caucasus following Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has expressed its optimism for the swift signing of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, following the completion of their negotiations.
In a statement released by the CSTO Secretariat and cited by Russian media, the organization welcomed the recent breakthrough, which saw both countries agreeing on the text of the peace treaty, per Caliber.Az.
“The Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization welcomes the statements of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan on the completion of negotiations and agreement on the text of the interstate document on peace between the two countries,” the statement said. “We express hope that the document will be signed as soon as possible and expect that its implementation will pave a reliable path to peace and stability in the South Caucasus, one of the most important areas of responsibility of the CSTO.”
This statement follows the March 13 announcement by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, which reaffirmed Baku’s commitment to ongoing dialogue with Armenia after successfully concluding negotiations on the draft Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations.
From Armenia’s side, the Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed that it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on the two remaining contentious issues, signaling that the peace treaty is now ready for formal signing.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, also confirmed that both nations had reached an agreement on the terms of the draft treaty, further reiterating Azerbaijan’s dedication to advancing efforts toward peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
