Cuba receives 100,000 tons of Russian oil
The Russian tanker Anatoly Kolodkin, carrying a humanitarian shipment of 100,000 tons of oil, has arrived in Cuba.
The vessel is currently awaiting unloading at the port of Mariel, home to the island nation’s largest oil terminal, TASS reports, citing the Russian Transport Ministry.
Previously, the US president said he did not object to humanitarian oil shipments to Cuba, noting that he was “not very concerned” about whether the oil came from Russia. At the same time, he reiterated that Cuba could become “the next” target for US attention in the near future.
Since January 9, Cuba has not received oil shipments, leading to a severe fuel shortage. The last delivery came from Mexico but was subsequently halted due to US pressure.
On March 20, the US Treasury added Cuba to the list of countries prohibited from purchasing Russian oil and petroleum products. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is in constant contact with Havana, discussing possible assistance amid the fuel crisis.
