Deputy FM: Azerbaijan ready to collaborate with all COP29 participants to achieve agreement
Azerbaijan is prepared to collaborate with all parties involved in COP29 who are committed to reaching an agreement, stated country's chief negotiator and Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev.
During a joint press conference organised by the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, and the Lancet Countdown at COP29, Rafiyev emphasised the significant amount of work that has already been carried out within the framework of COP29 over the past period, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He also noted that, while many challenges remain, substantial agreements have been reached on certain topics during the ongoing discussions at the summit.
Note that, COP29, held at Baku Stadium from November 11-22, marks Azerbaijan's largest event to date and the first COP conference in the region. The Azerbaijani government and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat have signed a "Host Country Agreement" and other key documents.
A highlight of COP29 is the World Leaders’ Summit on Climate Action, taking place on November 12-13. The main objective of COP29 is to reach an agreement on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) for climate finance.
The COP29 presidency has proposed 14 initiatives addressing the links between climate action and sustainable development. These initiatives cover areas such as green energy corridors, energy storage, climate resilience, clean hydrogen, methane reduction from organic waste, and green digital technologies.
One key proposal is the establishment of a Climate Finance Action Fund. This initiative aims to support climate finance and contribute to the global goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5°C.
