Deputy FM informs US congressmen of ongoing mine threat in Azerbaijan PHOTO
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov and his delegation, who are on a working visit to the United States, have informed the US Congress members of the ongoing mine threat in Azerbaijan and the reconstruction work the country is carrying out in its liberated lands.
On May 18, the delegation met with members of the US Senate - Senator Tom Cotton, Senator Ben Cardin, members of the House of Representatives Jack Bergman, Chuck Fleischmann, Mike Ezell and Robert Aderholt, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
The meetings focused on bilateral relations between the US and Azerbaijan, regional processes and the progress of the peace talks with Armenia.
At the meetings, the parties stressed that distorted and unsubstantiated information regarding the establishment of the Lachin border crossing by radical Armenian organisations operating in the US, and that unilateral resolutions put forward in this context by members of the US Congress that do not serve US national interests by damaging the relations between the two countries, as well as the ongoing peace negotiations.
On the same day, an Azerbaijani delegation visited the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce and met with activists from the Azerbaijani community living in the District of Columbia and surrounding states.
On May 21, Mammadov and his delegation attended the Azerbaijani flag-raising event in New York.
As part of the visit to New York, the delegation met with Edward Mermelstein, New York City's Commissioner for International Affairs.
The deputy minister also held a meeting with the local Azerbaijani community in New York.
The delegation's visit to the US will continue until May 24 and include meetings with other officials.
