Deputy PM: Digital transformation central to Azerbaijan’s economic agenda

17 May 2025 12:21

Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev led a government delegation to the “KazanForum-2025” International Economic Forum, held in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The forum brought together high-ranking officials and leaders from across Eurasia to discuss current global economic trends, with digital transformation as the central theme, Caliber.Az reports, citing domestic media.

Mustafayev participated in the forum’s main plenary session, which focused on the theme “Digitalisation: A New Reality.” The session featured several prominent figures, including the National Leader of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev.

During the plenary, Mustafayev was asked by the session’s moderator to assess the state of digitalisation in Azerbaijan. He responded by stating that “digitalisation in Azerbaijan is advancing at a rapid pace.” He highlighted that the country has made substantial progress in digitising public services, which he said represents not just a technological upgrade, but also a broader commitment to economic diversification, transparency, and more effective governance.

Mustafayev noted that these reforms are part of Azerbaijan’s broader strategic vision, in which digital transformation plays a key role in enhancing administrative efficiency and boosting non-oil sectors of the economy.

On the sidelines of the forum, Mustafayev held several bilateral meetings with key officials. He met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev. Discussions during these meetings focused on the current state of bilateral relations and opportunities for expanding cooperation in various fields.

In addition to participating in the plenary and bilateral meetings, the Azerbaijani delegation also attended the Russia Halal Expo, an international exhibition held within the framework of the Kazan Forum. During the expo, they visited the “Made in Azerbaijan” stand, which featured a variety of Azerbaijani products. Among those showcased was the Kalbajar-based brand “Isisu,” alongside other goods representing the country’s diverse production potential.
