Drone attack on Russia’s Cheboksary city leaves two dead, 32 injured, governor says
Two people have been killed and 32 others injured following a drone attack on the city of Cheboksary, Oleg Nikolayev, the governor of Russia’s Chuvash Republic, has stated.
He said 28 apartment buildings were damaged, affecting approximately 8,500 residents, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
In two of the buildings, structural load-bearing elements were compromised.
A regional state of emergency has been declared.
“This will allow us to rapidly mobilise all resources of the republic to provide the fastest possible assistance to people,” the governor noted.
Earlier reports indicated that Cheboksary had come under a wave of strikes during the day.
Initial damage was reported at the VNIIR-Progress plant, followed by damage to the MTV Centre shopping complex and the Cheboksary Electromechanical College.
A separate drone strike also hit a high-rise residential building.
