Embassy looking into Azerbaijani fitness trainer's detention case Ambassador Bulbuloglu talks to Caliber.Az

Speaking to Caliber.Az, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation Polad Bulbuloglu commented on the information regarding the detention of well-known Azerbaijani fitness trainer Kamil Zeynalli in Moscow.

"As soon as we learned about the detention of Azerbaijani citizen Kamil Zeynalli at Domodedovo airport, I immediately sent the consul of the Azerbaijani embassy in Russia and his deputy to the police station. They, as well as our lawyer, have already had a meeting with Kamil and are in constant contact with him," he said.

According to the ambassador, Zeynalli was arrested at the request of Armenia.

"The request was made as early as May 2023 within the framework of the CIS. The Armenian side charged him with several criminal code articles.

At about three o'clock in the morning, Moscow time, I personally spoke to Kamil on the phone. I told him that the embassy was already looking into his case. The fact that he was arrested at Armenia's request does not mean that Zeynalli will be put on a plane and sent to Yerevan immediately. No, it doesn't work like that. Now we are waiting for the court's decision, which will examine whether the Armenian side's request was justified," Bulbuloglu said.

Zeynalli posted a video on his Instagram account saying that he was arrested by Russian police officers at Moscow Domodedovo airport and taken to the police station, where they announced that he was arrested at the request of Armenia, which declared him wanted internationally.

"I hope for the support of our state structures. At the moment I am in the police station. I hope that everything will be sorted out. My plea is for the help of the Azerbaijani state," Zeynalli said.
