Empty freight carriage derails in southern Russia
Russian transport prosecutors have launched an investigation after an empty railway carriage derailed in the Volgograd region, authorities said on February 7.
According to the press service of the Southern Transport Prosecutor’s Office, the incident occurred on February 7 on a stretch of track between the Kachalino and Kotluban stations on the Volga Railway, a major rail network in southern Russia, Caliber.Az reports.
An emergency repair train was dispatched to the scene, and no casualties were reported.
Following the derailment, the Southern Transport Prosecutor’s Office initiated an inspection to assess compliance with railway traffic safety regulations and operational standards. The deputy Volgograd transport prosecutor traveled to the site to oversee the response.
The exact cause of the derailment is under investigation.
