EU aims to end all purchases of Russian oil, nuclear fuel, commissioner says
The European Commission will continue working toward a complete ban on EU countries purchasing Russian oil and nuclear fuel, EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen said.
This follows the Council of the EU’s recent decision to prohibit Russian gas imports starting in 2028, Caliber.Az reports, citing TASS.
Jørgensen said that this is not the end of their work and that the Commission will continue efforts to phase out imports of Russian oil and nuclear fuel.
He noted that the EU currently imports about 3% of its oil from Russia, while purchases of nuclear fuel are not significant in monetary terms — no more than €1 billion per year — yet they remain part of the overall plan.
He emphasized their goal is not to receive a single molecule of Russian energy resources.
Jørgensen recalled that the European Commission has been working since the beginning of this year on a complete ban preventing EU member states from buying Russian oil and nuclear fuel.
