EU ambassador praises Azerbaijan’s legacy of strong, inspiring women
EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Marijana Kovačević has said that Azerbaijan’s history is rich with examples of strong and successful women who continue to inspire younger generations.
According to local media, the diplomat spoke at the event titled “EU and Youth: For a Sustainable Future.”
Kovačević recalled that her connection to Azerbaijan began long before her diplomatic posting, explaining that she first became interested in the country twenty years ago after reading a book about the commercial development of its oil fields.
“Azerbaijan attracted me many years ago. But I came here for the first time only on September 2 of this year. It is interesting how fate works: sometimes books and education lead us to places we never planned to go,” she said, noting that it was her diplomatic service that ultimately brought her to Baku.
Discussing the role of women, the ambassador underscored that Azerbaijan’s past features numerous influential female figures whose achievements remain significant today.
“There are many examples of strong women in Azerbaijan’s history. There are similar examples in Europe and across the world. Of course, success requires effort, and I want to support your efforts,” she said, addressing the young participants.
