EU launches procedure to revoke visa-free access for Georgian diplomats
The European Commission has launched a procedure to suspend visa-free travel for Georgian diplomatic passport holders and their family members as part of sanctions against Tbilisi, with a final decision expected soon.
Speaking at a briefing in Brussels, European Commission spokesperson Markus Lammert said the process had been initiated last month, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He noted that European Union member states had already given a positive assessment of the proposed measure, enabling the Commission to proceed with the next steps, which would be announced in the near future.
At the same briefing, EU foreign policy spokesperson Anwar el Anouni said that Georgia had been deviating from democratic norms and narrowing the space for civil society, outlining the bloc’s concerns over recent political developments in the country.
