EU "monitoring mission" engages in further espionage activities along Azerbaijan’s border VIDEO
EU "monitoring mission" personnel in Armenia have been spotted once again carrying out surveillance activities close to Azerbaijan's border.
Thus, two Toyota vehicles registered to the EU, operatives reportedly approached the boundary between Armenia and Azerbaijan, closely monitoring Azerbaijani territories, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The "observers'" activities did not go unnoticed, as Azerbaijani State Border Service personnel, who maintain vigilant protection of the country’s borders, observed the actions of the EU mission.
The European Union launched its monitoring mission in Armenia (EUMA) in February 2023, initially deploying 138 observers. By the end of the year, the mission’s personnel increased to 209, with funding of over €39 million for its two-year duration.
Recently, EU ambassadors in Brussels approved an extension for another two years, ensuring the mission’s presence along Armenia’s border regions until at least February 2027. Reports from Armenian media indicate that the mission’s mandate remains unchanged, with 165 foreign nationals and 44 Armenian personnel. No changes have been made to its structure or the number of observers.
While the mission is presented as a stabilizing force, its surveillance of Azerbaijan’s border areas has raised concerns in Baku, which closely monitors the operations due to national security concerns.
