European observers resume controversial border surveillance as Azerbaijan stands guard VIDEO
The so-called "European observers" have resumed their activities along the conditional Azerbaijani-Armenian border, with reports indicating that they are focusing on areas near Zangilan and Lachin.
This marks the continuation of their surveillance mission, which has been a subject of contention, Caliber.Az reports.
The observers are actively monitoring these regions, although their presence raises concerns about their objectives and intentions. Azerbaijan, however, remains confident in its own capabilities, highlighting its superior surveillance technology and intelligence-gathering systems.
The Azerbaijani authorities have previously expressed their ability to monitor these areas with high precision, stating that they have the necessary resources to oversee the border efficiently. Despite the activities of the European mission, Azerbaijan asserts that it is well-equipped to assess and respond to any developments in the region.
The mandate for the observatory mission, which consists of 200 international and local personnel, has been extended for another two years to last until February 19, 2027. It was launched by the decision of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on February 20, 2023 in response to an official request by the Armenian authorities.
