Ex-deputy head of Republic of Karelia faces justice over massive bribes VIDEO
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has completed its investigation into a former deputy head of the Republic of Karelia, who is accused of accepting large-scale bribes.
According to investigators, between April 2017 and July 2022, the official—who served as Deputy Head of Karelia and Head of the Petrozavodsk City District—received more than 30 million rubles (approximately $390,000) through an intermediary from representatives of a commercial enterprise supplying food to medical institutions, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Investigative Committee.
Additionally, from March to December 2020, while serving as deputy head of Karelia, he allegedly accepted a 3.1 million ruble bribe from the CEO of a construction company for assistance with state contract matters.
The investigation was supported by the Federal Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Karelia. Over 80 witnesses were interviewed, and the accused’s assets—including buildings, land, and vehicles—were seized for a total value exceeding 30 million rubles.
“The investigation has gathered sufficient evidence, and the criminal case, with an approved indictment, has been sent to court for trial on the merits,” the Investigative Committee stated.
