FM: Italy committed to supporting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia
Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani reaffirmed Italy’s support for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, highlighting Rome’s role in backing the process.
“Even during the ongoing war, I took the initiative to restore peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia and worked towards this goal,” Tajani said in an interview with the American bureau of local media.
The minister emphasised that the Italian government fully supports the agreement reached between the two South Caucasus neighbours.
“Our goal is peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, in the Middle East and in Ukraine. We are making great efforts to achieve these goals. I am very pleased that on 8 August in Washington, with the participation of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia and with the mediation of the US President, a peace agreement was initialled. We are working to support this agreement. In the future, I want to visit Azerbaijan and see peace in the region,” he noted.
Tajani also underlined the long-standing and successful cooperation between Italy and Azerbaijan, pointing out the broader principles guiding Italy’s foreign policy.
“We have very good relations with all countries. We want to live in peace. Our strategy is to build good relations with everyone. We have successful and very positive ties with Azerbaijan in various fields,” the minister stressed.
