Official: Baku positions itself as link between Central Asia, Gulf states
Azerbaijan is positioning itself as a bridge between Central Asia and the Persian Gulf as it seeks to deepen cooperation with the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiev said at the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Week in Baku.
Rafiev highlighted Azerbaijan’s strategic geographical location, saying it enables the country to connect Central Asian states with the Gulf region more effectively, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
In this context, he pointed to Azerbaijan’s recent participation in the cooperation format with five Central Asian countries, previously known as the “C5+” and now operating as the “C6” framework.
He said this cooperation format is significant not only for strengthening regional connectivity but also for underlining the shared values between Azerbaijan and its Central Asian partners.
The deputy foreign minister also noted that Azerbaijan’s foreign policy toward Muslim and Arab countries, including GCC member states, has been consistent, resulting in strong political ties and growing economic cooperation. He described the GCC as an important platform for building closer partnerships.
Rafiev added that as Central Asian countries continue to develop their infrastructure potential, Azerbaijan is investing in its transport and logistics networks to enhance international routes, making them more attractive to major global players such as the European Union and China.
