FM: Russia expects new round of talks with Kyiv after June 22
Moscow has indicated it anticipates a fresh round of negotiations with Kyiv following June 22, focusing in part on further exchanges of the bodies of fallen soldiers.
The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the next round of talks will address this sensitive issue, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists that Russia is ready to transfer an additional 3,000 bodies of deceased Ukrainian servicemen, on top of the 6,000 already handed over.
“This requires coordination. So far, we have received only a few dozen bodies of our own soldiers,” Peskov explained. “All of this will be discussed at the next round of negotiations.”
Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the Russian delegation is prepared to travel to Istanbul after June 22 to resume talks with Kyiv.
She added that specific dates would be confirmed and announced by the delegation’s leadership soon.
This development comes amid ongoing efforts to maintain communication channels between Moscow and Kyiv despite the broader conflict, with both sides agreeing to humanitarian exchanges as part of these discussions.
Türkiye is actively involved in facilitating peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. The most recent round of negotiations took place in Istanbul on 2 June 2025, where delegations from both countries met to discuss potential pathways toward ending the conflict.
While significant progress was not achieved, both sides agreed on humanitarian measures, including the repatriation of fallen soldiers and a prisoner exchange.
