From Everest to Lhotse in two days: Azerbaijani climber sets new record Photo
Azerbaijani mountaineer Vafa Musayeva has conquered the highest peak on the planet – Mount Everest.
She has become the first female citizen representing Azerbaijan to reach the summit of the world’s tallest mountain, Caliber.Az reports.
Musayeva takes great pride in her achievement, considering it an honour for her homeland.
Remarkably, just two days after her Everest ascent, she also reached the summit of Lhotse, the world’s fourth-highest mountain, standing at 8,516 metres.
Musayeva is reported to be in good health following these extraordinary feats. For context, Everest’s height is 8,848 metres above sea level.
Following Vafa Musayeva’s heroic snowbound accomplishment, the record of Azerbaijani climbers and ethnic Azerbaijanis from other countries who have summited Everest under the Azerbaijani flag is as follows:
-
Israfil Ashurly – 2007, Azerbaijan
-
Murad Ashurly – 2013, Russia/USA
-
Vadim Vokryachko – 2019, Azerbaijan
-
Elmira Aslanova – 2023, representing Ukraine
-
Vafa Musayeva – 2025, Azerbaijan
This latest record solidifies Azerbaijan’s growing presence on the world’s highest peaks.
Note that Israfill Ashurly became the first Azerbaijani to successfully summit Mount Everest, marking a historic achievement for Azerbaijan’s mountaineering community. In 2007, Ashurly reached the peak of the world’s highest mountain at 8,848 meters, demonstrating remarkable endurance, skill, and determination.
