FSB foils large-scale drone plot targeting Russian military airfields
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted what it described as large-scale drone swarm attacks allegedly planned by Ukrainian intelligence services against the Ukrainka and Shagol military airfields in the Amur and Chelyabinsk regions, TASS reports, citing the FSB’s Public Relations Centre.
According to the agency, the individuals accused of carrying out and assisting in the planned attacks have been detained.
“The operation resulted in the seizure of 24 FPV drones equipped with neural-network control modules resistant to electronic warfare systems and manufactured in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Sweden. The drones were fitted with warheads containing more than one kilogram of explosive material,” the FSB’s Public Relations Centre said.
The agency also reported the seizure of two mobile ground control stations capable of operating drones via satellite, cellular, Wi-Fi, and radio communication channels. The stations were equipped with self-destruct devices containing 250 grams of explosives each.
In addition, investigators confiscated communication equipment that was allegedly used by the suspects and their accomplices to maintain contact with Ukrainian coordinators involved in the planned drone attacks.
