Georgia joins 34-member WHO executive board
Georgia has been elected to the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The South Caucasus nation will be represented on the UN health agency’s governing body by Irakli Sasania, Georgia’s First Deputy Minister of Health, Caliber.Az reports citing Georgian media.
“The Executive Board is one of the WHO’s principal governing bodies, responsible for shaping the organization’s agenda and guiding the development of global health policy,” Sasania said.
The 34-member Executive Board is composed of countries elected for three-year terms. Membership is distributed across the WHO’s regions, with current European representatives including Bulgaria, Norway, Poland, Serbia, Spain and the United Kingdom.
“Georgia’s participation in its work is both an important recognition of the country’s standing on the international stage and a significant responsibility,” he added.
