Georgia’s parliament opens spring session amid legislative, political debates
Georgia’s Parliament will open its spring session on February 3, with the first plenary meeting beginning with the national anthem.
At the opening session, lawmakers are expected to establish a temporary parliamentary commission to examine the pricing structure of food products, medicines, and fuel, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
Several legislative initiatives have been placed on the agenda, including amendments to the laws on General Education and Higher Education. The proposed changes, prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science, have been submitted to Parliament for expedited consideration.
One of the central issues of the spring session will be a legislative package introduced by the ruling Georgian Dream faction. The package proposes new restrictions on party activities and broader political activity, and is expected to prompt significant debate.
During the spring session, Parliament is also scheduled to hear a report on the state of the country from Mikheil Kavelashvili, as well as a report on parliamentary activities from Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.
