Georgian expert: Only Azerbaijan can save Armenia from current situation
Georgian military and political expert Vakhtang Maisaya has said that only Azerbaijan can save Armenia from the situation in which it finds itself due to the closure of the Upper Lars border checkpoint.
“Only Azerbaijan can save Armenia from the situation in which it finds itself due to the closure of the Upper Lars border checkpoint,” Maisaya told Report, commenting on the closure of the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Georgian military road, which is the only route connecting Armenia and Russia.
“The Armenian side must sign a peace agreement. Otherwise, this will be the end for Armenia,” the expert noted.
He added that the peace treaty will open the way for economic relations.
“After the signing of the agreement, Armenia’s trade and economic ties with Azerbaijan and Türkiye will also improve. This means the opening of a new corridor, thanks to which both the trade potential of the South Caucasus and its security will increase,” Maisaya said.
He also shared his expectations regarding the timing of signing the Azerbaijani-Armenian peace treaty.
“Proceeding from the current pace, the peace agreement will be signed no later than January-February 2024. Yerevan understands that this document not only will save it, but will also make the region economically strong,” Maisaya added.
