Hamas delegation set for key talks in Cairo on ceasefire and hostage deal
A Hamas delegation will travel to Cairo on November 30 for discussions with Egyptian officials regarding a potential ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier reports from Western news agencies confirmed the visit, citing statements from Hamas officials, who indicated that the talks would focus on issues related to a ceasefire and a potential agreement on hostages in Gaza, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
This announcement follows the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, which took effect two days ago.
Meanwhile, the United States has launched new diplomatic efforts, working alongside Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt to broker a ceasefire in Gaza. Despite numerous attempts throughout the year, these efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
US Senator Lindsey Graham shared with Axios that President-elect Donald Trump is determined to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the release of Israeli hostages before he assumes office in January. Graham, a frequent advisor to Trump on Middle East matters, said, "Trump is more determined than ever to free the hostages and supports a ceasefire that includes a hostage deal. He wants it to happen now."
He added, “I want people in Israel and in the region to know that Trump is focused on the hostage issue. He is committed to seeing an end to the killing and fighting.”
Graham expressed hope that both Trump and the Biden administration could work together during the transition period to achieve the ceasefire and secure the release of the hostages. He believes that reaching a deal on Gaza is a critical step before Trump can focus on other foreign policy priorities, such as normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia and forming a regional alliance against Iran.
