Iran appoints new IRGC ground forces commander
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has appointed Brigadier General Mohammad Karami as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Ground Forces, according to an official announcement on June 19.
Karami succeeds Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour, who held the post for over a decade and played a prominent role in overseeing IRGC ground operations during a period marked by regional tensions and internal security challenges, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.
The appointment, made upon the recommendation of the IRGC's top command, was attributed to Karami’s “proven competence and valuable experience” in the military.
Authorities in Tehran expect the new commander to boost the operational readiness of the ground forces, strengthen their ideological commitment, and align the force with the strategic vision of the Islamic Revolution.
The Supreme Leader expressed appreciation for Pakpour’s “effective and valuable service” during his tenure and extended his prayers for Karami’s success in his new role.
