Iran arrests over thirty suspected Israeli spies in two provinces
Iranian authorities have arrested a total of 31 individuals in Bushehr and Qom provinces accused of espionage and supporting Israel, in a series of recent crackdowns amid heightened tensions with the Israeli government.
In this vein, authorities in Iran have announced the arrest of nine individuals in the southern Bushehr Province on charges of supporting Israel, according to local officials.
The detentions followed an intelligence operation conducted by the Intelligence Organization of the Law Enforcement Command, with assistance from a security unit known as the “anonymous soldiers of Imam Zaman,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
The suspects face accusations including "spreading propaganda, sowing public confusion, and undermining the psychological security of society." They have been handed over to judicial authorities for further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, in Qom Province, security forces arrested 22 individuals accused of espionage for the Israeli government, Fars News Agency writes. The detainees are charged with "collaborating with Israeli intelligence services, spreading propaganda to disrupt public opinion, and supporting regime activities." They have also been referred to judicial authorities for investigation.
These arrests follow a June 12 announcement by Iranian police regarding the detention of 24 people accused of spying for Israel and attempting to damage Iran’s image. Among those arrested was a citizen of a European country.
Iran frequently reports arrests of suspected spies, with several executions carried out in recent weeks. The Norway-based NGO Iran Human Rights has documented at least 223 arrests across the country related to alleged collaboration with Israel, though it warns the actual number is likely higher.
