Iran–Azerbaijan ties “unbreakable”, Pezeshkian says in Independence Day message to Aliyev
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has congratulated Azerbaijan on its Independence Day, stressing the “unbreakable” bonds between the two countries and calling for deeper cooperation across bilateral and regional issues.
In a message addressed to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Pezeshkian highlighted what he described as the “numerous commonalities in history, civilisation, culture, religion, and language” shared by the two nations, Azertag reports.
“The peoples of Iran and Azerbaijan share numerous commonalities in history, civilisation, culture, religion, and language. These shared bonds have strengthened the friendship between our two nations and made it unbreakable,” he said in the message, according to the official statement released on June 2, 2026.
He added that these ties had provided “a solid foundation for the development of relations between our countries” since Azerbaijan restored its independence.
Pezeshkian said Tehran has consistently supported the expansion of ties since that point, noting that both sides are now witnessing what he called a “dynamic process” in relations.
“We are pleased that today we are witnessing a dynamic process in relations between our countries in line with the wishes and aspirations of our peoples,” he said.
Looking ahead, the Iranian president expressed hope that cooperation would accelerate further across multiple fields. “I hope that this dynamic process, which covers a wide range of bilateral, regional, and international issues, will continue at an even faster pace,” he said.
He concluded by wishing success for the Azerbaijani leadership and prosperity for the country’s population, adding: “I pray to Almighty Allah for Your Excellency’s robust health and success, and wish the people of the Republic of Azerbaijan prosperity and peace.”
