Iran condemns Israeli strike on hospital, defends nuclear program

16 June 2025 17:38

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei sharply condemned Israeli military actions in western Iran, accusing Tel Aviv of targeting civilian infrastructure, including a hospital, and violating international law.

In a statement posted on X, Baqaei said Israeli forces attacked Farabi Hospital in the city of Kermanshah, calling it a “grave violation of international law and a war crime,” Caliber.Az reports.

He alleged the strikes, which also hit residential areas, were directed by Israel’s Defence Minister.

“Israeli aggressors targeted Farabi Hospital in Kermanshah, west of Iran. Attacking hospitals and residential areas, reportedly directed by their Defense Minister, is a grave violation of int'l law and war crime. History will judge; eternal shame awaits the regime's backers & apologists,” Baqaei wrote.

Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference on June 16, Baqaei also denounced recent Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, describing the move as a dangerous precedent with serious implications for global non-proliferation norms. He claimed the strikes undermine the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and urged European governments to condemn Israel’s actions.

“The aggression against Iran’s nuclear sites has harmed the NPT and violated international obligations,” Baqaei said.

He reiterated that Iran’s nuclear program remains peaceful and fully compliant with international oversight.

He noted that Iran’s nuclear activities are under the strictest inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), adding that suspicions about Iran’s intentions are baseless.

Baqaei stressed that Iran’s nuclear efforts are legitimised under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 and said those rights “cannot be taken away by any organisation.”

Despite the rising military tensions with Israel, Iran remains committed to advancing its civilian nuclear program, the spokesman concluded.

“Iran’s nuclear program is alive,” the spokesman stated.
