Iranian authorities have executed three individuals convicted of espionage on behalf of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency.
The executions took place in the morning of June 25 in Urmia prison, located in West Azerbaijan province, marking a significant escalation in Iran’s response to alleged foreign espionage activities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Since June 13, in the wake of heightened hostilities between Iran and Israel, Iranian authorities have initiated an extensive internal security crackdown targeting individuals suspected of espionage or collaboration with Israel’s Mossad.
Sources within Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that during 12 days of the escalation of hostilities between Iran and Israel, Iranian authorities have detained approximately 700 individuals, mostly in the provinces of Kermanshah, Isfahan, Khuzestan, Fars, and Lorestan, on charges of espionage and alleged collaboration with Israel.
However, the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) has released a broader estimate, stating that a total of 823 individuals have been detained across the country on political or security-related charges since the flare-up of the conflict.
