Iran expresses readiness to cooperate with Pakistan to combat border terrorism
The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, affirmed Tehran’s willingness to work with Pakistan to eliminate terrorism along their shared border, emphasising the need for practical measures to ensure long-term security.
According to Iranian media, Mousavi conveyed these remarks during a telephone conversation on August 26 with the Chief of Staff of the Pakistani Army, Field Marshal Asim Munir, highlighting the critical importance of securing the Iranian-Pakistani frontier.
“Unfortunately, terrorist activity on both sides of the border has increased. We are prepared to cooperate to eradicate terrorism in the region and guarantee security along our common border,” Mousavi stated.
He also commended Pakistan for its support during Iran’s recent 12-day conflict, stressing that the two countries must now translate their collaboration into concrete actions against terrorist groups.
“Several measures have already been taken, but they need to be intensified and previous shortcomings addressed,” he added.
Field Marshal Asim Munir echoed Iran’s concerns, expressing full agreement on the importance of border security.
“We must transform the Pakistan-Iran border into one of friendship, brotherhood, and economic development, and we will achieve this through cooperation,” he said.
