Iran lodges formal complaint with UN chief over US actions
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has sent a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres accusing the United States of violating a memorandum of understanding and carrying out attacks on Iran’s civilian infrastructure.
“Deliberate attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure constitute a war crime and a crime against humanity,” the letter read.
Iravani alleged that the United States had “consistently failed to fulfil its obligations” and had deliberately “undermined the implementation” of the memorandum of understanding.
According to the Iranian envoy, Tehran has documented “42 clear and fundamental violations” of the memorandum by Washington.
The letter comes after US President Donald Trump renewed threats overnight on Wednesday, July 15, to strike Iranian bridges and energy infrastructure facilities.
