Iran offers to transport Turkmen, Russian gas in any direction
Iran has offered to transport Turkmen and Russian gas to consumers in any direction, including South Asia.
Managing Director and Chairman of the Board of the Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC) Reza Nowshadi made the remarks in an exclusive interview with news service News Central Asia (NCA) on the sidelines of the specialized exhibition of Iran, held on February 15-17 in Ashgabat, Interfax reports.
"We have officially recommended and proposed to Gazprom and Turkmengaz that Iran is ready to receive gas from Turkmenistan and Russia in the north and supply it to any country in the south at their request," he said.
Nowshadi added that the country is ready to supply gas to Pakistan. According to him, a pipeline with a capacity of 100 million cubic meters per day is already being built at the border.
He noted that Iran now has the capacity to transfer up to 100 million cubic metres of gas per day, which is about 36.5 billion cubic metres of gas per year.
IGEDC is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Gas Company of Iran (NIGC).
On February 8, the Turkmen leader at a meeting with Gazprom Chairman Alexei Miller discussed prospects for cooperation in the gas sector.
