Iran's Revolutionary Guards confirm commander Shadmani’s death in Israeli strike
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced the death of Major General Ali Shadmani, Commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, following injuries sustained in an Israeli attack last week.
According to a statement released by the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, General Shadmani succumbed to severe wounds inflicted during the assault, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
The statement solemnly noted, “General Ali Shadmani, commander of Khatam al-Anbiya central headquarters joined his fellow martyrs in dying of severe wounds sustained in the Israeli attack a week ago.”
This development assumes heightened significance in the context of the recently brokered US-backed ceasefire, which brought an end to the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran. US President Donald Trump announced on June 24 that the truce was now in effect, emphasizing that Israel would cease further attacks on Iran and that Tehran would halt any efforts to rebuild its nuclear program.
The Israeli military had earlier claimed responsibility for the death of Ali Shadmani during a targeted overnight strike on what it described as a “command centre in the heart of Tehran.” Israel identified Shadmani as Iran’s wartime chief of staff and its highest-ranking military commander.
The Israeli armed forces' claim had come on June 17, just four days after Shadmani's predecessor, Gholam Ali Rashid, was killed in the initial surprise attack launched by Israel.
Ali Shadmani replaced Rashid as the new commander of the Guards' Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters.
According to the Israel defense forces (IDF), Shadmani was the closest figure to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
