Iran says Qatar, Pakistan continue US mediation despite tensions
Qatar and Pakistan continue to mediate between Iran and the United States in ongoing negotiations, but Washington’s actions are undermining the diplomatic process, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said.
In remarks reported by Tasnim, Baghaei said the framework of the talks had largely been agreed early on, but progress was disrupted by shifts in the US position.
“Qatar and Pakistan act as mediators; however, US actions are influencing the diplomatic process. The situation around the negotiations was clear to us from the very beginning, and most of the text had been finalised, but the Americans changed their positions,” he said.
Baghaei reiterated that Tehran would not compromise on core demands.
“Iran has proven that it does not compromise on what it defines as red lines,” he said.
He also linked regional security tensions to US actions, warning that conditions in a key maritime corridor had deteriorated.
“The situation in the Strait of Hormuz has become more insecure due to US actions,” Baghaei said.
He added that Iran has yet to make a final decision on the outcome of the negotiations.
“At this point, Iran has not yet reached a final conclusion regarding the agreement,” he said.
