Iran says ready for dialogue with US but warns It will defend itself
Iran is prepared to engage in dialogue with the United States but will defend itself and respond forcefully if subjected to pressure, Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations said on January 28.
The statement was issued amid threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to Caliber.Az reports, citing the mission’s X account.
“Iran stands ready for dialogue based on mutual respect and interests—but if pushed, it will defend itself and respond like never before,” the Iranian mission said.
The statement also pointed to the cost of past U.S. military interventions, noting that the United States lost more than 7,000 soldiers and spent around $7 trillion during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The comments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, including disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme and recent political unrest inside the country.
