Iran suspends commitments under US conflict memorandum
Iran has suspended the implementation of its commitments under a memorandum aimed at resolving the conflict with the United States, signed on June 18, 2026, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said.
“We have also suspended the implementation of our obligations; we are not carrying them out at the moment and are focused on defending the country,” Gharibabadi said, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
The decision comes amid a renewed escalation between Washington and Tehran that began on July 8. According to Iranian officials, U.S. forces launched several rounds of strikes against targets in Iran for the first time since the memorandum was signed, following an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the end of a ceasefire with Iran.
Iran subsequently launched retaliatory strikes against U.S. facilities across the Middle East, including locations in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
