Iranian ambassador evades direct answer on Nakhchivan drone attacks
Following attacks on Iran, the country struck U.S. and Israeli military bases in the region, officially announcing these operations.
According to Report, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mojtaba Demirchilu made this statement in an interview with Baku TV.
“Iran has denied reports of drone attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia and on a port in Oman,” the diplomat said.
During this part of the interview, journalist Turan Ibragimov reminded the ambassador that the Azerbaijani public is concerned about the reason for the attack on Nakhchivan and asked what specific “suspicious elements” he was referring to. Ibragimov noted that Arash-type drones are more effective for short-range strikes and had reportedly entered Azerbaijan from Iranian territory.
The ambassador, emphasizing that he is not a military expert, refrained from commenting on military or technical matters.
“My mission is different — when problems arise between two countries (Iran and Azerbaijan), I try to facilitate their resolution as quickly as possible. You mention Arash, but according to information I have received from the Azerbaijani side, these were Shahed-type drones,” he said.
Ibragimov disagreed with the ambassador at this point, noting the technical specifications of the Arash drones and stressing that they are designed for short-range strikes.
The Iranian ambassador, once again citing alleged doubts regarding the Nakhchivan drone attack, avoided giving a direct answer.
