Israeli airstrike hits ICT building at Tehran’s Sharif University
An airstrike struck the information and communication technology (ICT) building at Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology on April 6 morning, disrupting the university’s online learning, Mohammed Vesal, an economics professor at the institution confirmed.
Vesal, who spoke to a team from Associated Press that traveled to Iran to report on the situation, said that all students have now left the campus due to the ongoing war.
“All web services of the university are down now because of this violent attack on our infrastructure,” Vesal said. “This is a purely academic institution.”
Sharif University of Technology is widely regarded as Iran’s top engineering school. Over the years, the university has faced sanctions from multiple countries for its collaborations with the military, particularly on Iran’s ballistic missile program, which is overseen by the country’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.
The agency Iran International also shared video footage purportedly showing the strike on the university grounds.
An airstrike hit the southern perimeter of Sharif University in Tehran early Monday during US and Israeli attacks, local sources said. Initial reports said the Electronics Research Center was struck, with no casualties but damage to nearby buildings and campus infrastructure. pic.twitter.com/t7K9AzKY9U
