Israeli army hits Hezbollah weapons depots in Beqaa, South Lebanon
The Israel Defence Forces launched a missile strike targeting Hezbollah military sites in Lebanon.
According to a statement from the IDF spokesperson’s unit on Telegram, IDF fighter jets recently struck a Hezbollah military site in the Beqaa Valley, targeting rocket launchers and weapons stockpiles, Caliber.Az reports.
The operation was prompted by detected active militant activity at this location.
Additionally, the Israeli army targeted Hezbollah’s infrastructure and rocket positions in southern Lebanon.
In recent development, Israel carried out a new wave of air strikes on Lebanon on May 17 in response to a cross-border rocket attack, as tensions continued to rise despite a ceasefire agreed in late November.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz ordered "a second wave of strikes against dozens of Hezbollah targets in Lebanon", according to the defence ministry, which called it "the largest escalation since a November 27 ceasefire".
The military said the strikes were "a response to rocket fire towards Israel and a continuation of the first series of strikes carried out this morning" targeting southern Lebanon.
Lebanon's National News Agency reported that an Israeli strike on the town of Touline killed five people, including a girl. Later, three more fatalities were reported in Tyre during the second wave of strikes, with several people also injured.
