Israeli PM accuses Iranian agents of attempted assassination
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iranian agents of attempting to assassinate him and his wife during a drone attack near the city of Caesarea on October 19.
He asserted that this would not deter Israel from continuing its military operations against Hamas and Hezbollah, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“The attempt by Iran’s proxy Hezbollah to assassinate me and my wife today was a grave mistake. This will not deter me or the State of Israel from continuing our just war against our enemies in order to secure our future,” the Israeli prime minister wrote on X.
"We [Israel] will achieve all our war objectives, and we will transform the security landscape in our region for many generations to come," he added.
Netanyahu reiterated his message to "Iranians and their partners in the axis of evil," stating that "anyone who harms the Israeli citizens will pay a heavy price."
"We [Israel] will continue eliminating terrorists, secure the release of our hostages from Gaza, and bring the residents of northern Israel back to their houses," he added.
On the morning of October 19, the Israeli Prime Minister's office announced that Netanyahu's residence in Caesarea had come under drone attack from Lebanon. At the time of the attack, neither the prime minister nor his wife, Sara, was at home, and fortunately, no one was injured.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that three drones were launched from Lebanese territory on the morning of the attack, with one targeting a building in Caesarea. The other two drones were intercepted by air defence forces, triggering sirens at the Glilot base in northern Tel Aviv.
The target of the attack was Netanyahu's residence. While the prime minister and his family typically spend most weekends in Caesarea, they have recently been staying at a villa in Jerusalem owned by one of Netanyahu's friends.
A senior official said that Iran was behind the attempt to eliminate Netanyahu through a drone attack.
