January 2 marks birthday of Azerbaijan’s National Hero Polad Hashimov
January 2 marks the birthday of Major General Polad Hashimov, the National Hero of Azerbaijan, who died heroically on July 14, 2020 on the front line while preventing provocations of the Armenian side.
He would have turned 49 years old, Caliber.Az reports.
Polad Hashimov was born on January 2, 1975 in Vandam settlement of Gabala district. He graduated from secondary school in Sumgayit, where he moved with his family.
After graduating from the Heydar Aliyev Higher Military School, he started serving in the army.
In 2003, in the rank of major, Hashimov was awarded the medal "For Military Merit" by the Order of the National Leader, and six years later, in 2009, in the rank of colonel, he was awarded the medal "For Homeland" by the Order of President Ilham Aliyev.
On June 25, 2014, he was awarded the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” III degree, and for valor during the April 2016 fighting he was awarded the “Order for Merit to the Fatherland” II degree.
During the April battles, he was Chief of Staff of the First Army Corps and made a significant contribution to the clearing of the heights near the village of Talish.
On June 25, 2015, he was promoted to the rank of major general. He was then appointed chief of staff of the Third Army Corps. Polad Hashimov became a martyr during fierce fighting in the direction of Tovuz on July 14, 2020.
On July 14, his body was taken to Vandam village of Gabala district and then to Sumgayit city. He was buried on July 15 next to Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev in the Second Alley of Martyrs.
On December 9, 2020, he was posthumously conferred the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan by the Order of the President.
