Kazakh president strengthens strategic partnership with Russia in Kremlin, Federation Council meetings
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has been actively engaging with Russian leadership to strengthen bilateral cooperation and discuss the international situation. His diplomatic efforts began with a private meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, where he focused on global affairs and the scope of collaboration between Astana and Moscow.
Following the private talks with Putin, Tokayev held a high-level meeting with Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Speaking to Matvienko, Tokayev reflected on his discussions with Putin.
“Yesterday, in a private setting with esteemed Vladimir Vladimirovich, we spoke for about two hours, discussing a wide range of issues concerning both our bilateral cooperation and the international situation,” Tokayev said.
He described his visit as a milestone in Kazakh-Russian relations. “Indeed, this visit holds special significance in the history of our relations, as it elevates the strategic partnership and allied ties between our countries to a new level,” Tokayev stated.
During the meeting, the sides discussed pressing issues of trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation, as well as coordination between the parliaments of Kazakhstan and Russia. They emphasized the importance of robust legislative support for all agreements reached at the highest level to ensure effective implementation of bilateral initiatives.
Matvienko expressed Russia’s appreciation for Tokayev’s visit, highlighting the thorough preparations for the state-level engagement. “A very serious program and a package of intergovernmental documents, which will be signed by the leaders of our states, have been prepared. I also carefully read your authored article, dear Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich, in Rossiyskaya Gazeta. There is nothing to add or subtract regarding Russian-Kazakh relations. It is written with depth, substance, and sincerity, covering their history, present, and future,” she said.
The meetings concluded with Tokayev and Matvienko viewing a photo exhibition showcasing Kazakh-Russian intergovernmental and interparliamentary relations, underlining the historical and ongoing partnership between the two nations.
