Kazakhstan asks its citizens not to travel to Bangladesh
Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry recommends its citizens to temporarily refrain from travelling to Bangladesh.
"In connection with the emerging situation in the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan recommends that citizens of Kazakhstan temporarily refrain from visiting this country until the situation stabilises," the ministry said, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Ministry's press service.
Citizens of Kazakhstan, currently in Bangladesh, are asked not to leave their places of residence unless absolutely necessary, to observe increased security measures, to be vigilant and cautious, to monitor news and adhere to the recommendations of the authorities, as well as to be in touch with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Kazakhstan. Emergency lines are open for citizens in Bangladesh and their relatives in Kazakhstan for additional and immediate information.
Bangladesh's student protests over a government job quota system evolved into a large-scale anti-government movement, leading to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation.
According to media reports, the death toll in the anti-government protests climbed to 440 on August 6, with 100 more deaths reported after Sheikh Hasina fled the country even as efforts were on by the army to bring the situation under control in the violence-hit nation.
