Kazakhstan blocks large shipment of Russian poultry at border

Kazakhstan has stopped an attempt to illegally import a major consignment of poultry products at the Syrim veterinary checkpoint, the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture announced.

According to the statement, a truck travelling from Russia’s Samara Region to the Kyzylorda Region was halted for mandatory inspection, Caliber.Az reports.

During the check, authorities discovered 20 tonnes of poultry meat in the vehicle.

“However, the document review revealed a violation: the company that produced the goods is not listed in the EAEU [Eurasian Economic Union] registry of producers authorised to export animal-origin products to Kazakhstan,” the ministry said.

As a result, the vehicle was sent back to its country of origin for failing to meet veterinary and sanitary requirements, while the driver was issued an administrative protocol and fined.

Since the beginning of this year, 204 violations of veterinary legislation have been recorded in the West Kazakhstan region.

Following inspections, 204 vehicles were sent back, and 130 administrative protocols were drawn up.

The total amount of fines imposed exceeded 11 million tenge (about USD 21,000).
