A capsule-laying ceremony in honor of the start of the construction of the multimodal terminal of JSC Roti Transterminal was held on August 11 in the port of Poti, Novosti Georgia reports.

This is a joint Georgian-Kazakh project and a joint venture - Рoti Transterminal - was created for its implementation, in which the Kazakh PTC Holding and Georgian partners each own 50 percent of the shares.

“From September 2023, the implementation of the project will enter an active phase, and commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024,” Olzhas Arykbayev, Development Director at PTC Holding, said.

The capsule-laying ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, and Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev, businessmen of the two countries.

The estimated cost of the project now is about 15-20 million dollars. The terminal will be located on an area of 8 hectares, and its capacity at the first stage will be 80,000 containers (20-foot equivalent) per year.

“The construction of the port terminal will be the first Kazakh infrastructure project implemented in Poti, one of the largest ports in Georgia, which is a reference point on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), which is extremely important for Kazakh enterprises in the current geopolitical situation in the world, as well as for diversification of logistics routes,” said Timur Karabaev, Chairman of the Board of PTC Holding.

The Georgian economy minister noted that now the economic cooperation between Georgia and Kazakhstan is entering a new stage of development.

“For the correct and competent development of relationships and potential, it is imperative to develop the infrastructure in terms of freight logistics,” Davitashvili said.

In turn, Kazakh Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development Marat Karabayev noted that Kazakhstan now pays special attention to the development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route and the presence of its own terminal in Georgia is part of this policy.
