Kazakhstan offers key wagon support to Azerbaijan Railways in Trans-Caspian partnership
Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the national railway company of Kazakhstan, has announced its plan to support Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) by providing wagon assistance, a move that will enhance rail cooperation between the two countries.
This development was shared by Gaidar Abdikerimov, the General Secretary of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), during a meeting of the association in Baku, Caliber.Az reports, referring to local media.
The discussion at the meeting centred around the organization of the executive body’s operations, the formation of a wagon pool along the Middle Corridor, and the provision of wagons to assist both Azerbaijani and Georgian railroads. Abdikerimov emphasized the importance of Kazakhstan’s support in improving the region's railway infrastructure.
Moreover, Abdikerimov revealed plans to open a representative office for the TMTM in Xi'an, China, as part of efforts to strengthen connectivity along the corridor.
The Middle Corridor, a crucial transportation route, links China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Europe, facilitating significant trade across these regions. In October 2023, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan signed an agreement to establish the Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd., a joint railway company aimed at enhancing the efficiency of transit transportation along the corridor.
In 2024, freight traffic along the Trans-Caspian route surged by an impressive 62%, reaching 4.5 million tons. With ongoing initiatives to further develop the route, the throughput capacity is expected to increase to 10 million tons by 2027, marking a significant milestone in the region's transportation infrastructure.
