Kazakhstan plans six-month ban on LPG exports by road and rail
Kazakhstan’s authorities are preparing to extend restrictions on the export of liquefied petroleum gas, according to a draft order issued by the country’s Energy Ministry and cited by Kazakh media.
The draft order of the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, titled “On Certain Issues of Transportation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas,” provides for the introduction of a six-month ban on the export of liquefied petroleum gas, as well as propane and butane, from the territory of the republic by both road and rail transport.
The document specifies: “Introduce a ban on the export from the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan of liquefied petroleum gas, propane and butane by automobile and railway transport for a period of six months.”
According to the explanatory note, the restriction is aimed at ensuring the uninterrupted supply of liquefied petroleum gas to the domestic market of Kazakhstan.
The ban is scheduled to come into force on May 14, 2026.
The draft order has been published on the “Open NPAs” (Open Normative Legal Acts) website for public discussion, which will continue until March 19.
