Kazakhstan's Defence Ministry conducts large-scale drills
Under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan Talgat Koibakov, an operational-tactical command and staff exercise "Shygys-2023" is being held with control bodies, formations, and units of the regional command "Vostok", the press service of the country's Defence Ministry said in a statement.
The exercise is taking place in East Kazakhstan, Almaty, and Karaganda regions at the Shygys, Novo-Akhmirovo, Izendy, and Spassk firing ranges, Anadolu reported.
"It involves about 5,000 servicemen and 1,500 units of weapons and military equipment. The purpose of the exercise is to test the combat readiness of the command and control bodies and troops, and their ability to fulfil their intended tasks in due time. At the first stage of the exercise, the troops regrouped at training ranges after being alerted. The movement of military equipment was carried out by railway transport and on its own on motorways and specially equipped convoy tracks. In the designated areas, the units carried out measures of engineering equipment of the terrain and began to practice firing and tactical and special tasks," the Defence Ministry said.
According to the ministry, military maneuvers with the participation of army aviation and grouping of troops will last until September 5 this year. At the final stage, it is planned to work out practical actions of troops with live firing
