Kazakhstan ships over 100,000 tons of grain to Azerbaijan
Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) national company has announced that 3.7 million tons of grain were transported during the current marketing year (September-October 2024), marking a 45 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
Grain exports for the current harvest totaled 2.9 million tons, a 51 per cent increase compared to last year, the company said, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
"KTZ ensures smooth access for grain to new markets, such as Azerbaijan, to which 104,000 tons have been shipped over the past two months," the statement noted.
KTZ also reported positive growth in its main export routes during the period: shipments to Central Asia increased by 35 per cent, while exports to Afghanistan grew by 58 per cent. Transport volumes to Iran surged to 356,000 tons, compared to 14,000 tons last year. Shipments to China reached 445,000 tons, in line with the receiving country's capacity.
Established by the government in 2002 as a joint-stock company, KTZ's primary mission is to develop, operate, and maintain railway transportation across Kazakhstan. Its headquarters is located in Astana. Affiliated subsidiary companies are responsible for the rolling stock, hauling equipment, and passenger transport services.
